The H-1B visa is the primary pathway for skilled foreign workers to work in the United States. But with a 33% lottery approval rate and complex employer requirements, targeting the right companies is critical.

This guide lists 50 companies with a strong, consistent track record of H-1B sponsorship — and gives you a strategy for getting hired at them.

How We Selected These Companies

We analyzed H-1B petition data from the US Department of Labor (LCA database) to identify companies that:

  1. Filed 100+ H-1B petitions in the past 3 years
  2. Had approval rates above 85%
  3. Are actively hiring in 2026

The data is public and searchable at myvisajobs.com and h1bdata.info.

How to Target These Companies

1. Verify Their Sponsorship History

Before applying, confirm the company has sponsored H-1Bs recently:

  • Go to myvisajobs.com
  • Search the company name
  • Check petitions filed in the last 2 years and approval rates

2. Apply Directly to Company Career Pages

Many H-1B-sponsoring companies prefer direct applications over job board applications. Go to their careers page and apply there first.

3. Mention H-1B Upfront

In your cover letter or initial email, state clearly:

"I am currently on [OPT/F-1/other status] and will require H-1B sponsorship. I understand this involves a lottery process and am happy to discuss timing and logistics."

This saves everyone time and shows you understand the process.

4. Target Companies with Established Immigration Teams

Companies that file 1,000+ H-1B petitions per year have dedicated immigration attorneys and HR processes. They know exactly what to do. Smaller companies may be willing but unprepared.

5. Use OPT/STEM OPT Strategically

If you're on F-1 OPT, you have 12 months of work authorization (36 months with STEM OPT). Use this time to get hired at a company that will sponsor your H-1B in the next lottery cycle (April each year, for October start dates).

Alternatives If You Don't Win the Lottery

The H-1B lottery is 33% — meaning 2 in 3 applicants don't get selected. Have a backup plan:

  • O-1 Visa: For individuals with extraordinary ability. No lottery, but high bar.
  • L-1 Visa: Intra-company transfer. Work for a multinational abroad for 1 year, then transfer to the US.
  • TN Visa: For Canadian and Mexican citizens under USMCA. No lottery, no cap.
  • EB-1 / EB-2 NIW: Employment-based green cards for exceptional ability. Long wait times but no employer required for NIW.
  • Canada or Germany: Consider targeting these countries as alternatives — both have strong tech markets and more accessible visa systems.
