The Critical Skills Employment Permit covers specified occupations (including many software and data roles) with a salary floor. After 21 months you can usually apply for Stamp 4 and drop the permit. General Employment Permits exist for other roles but are more constrained. The employer applies to the Department of Enterprise; you then handle immigration permission.
